Made to order

A small home kitchen in Hackney, one baker, and a cake built around whatever you are celebrating.

Bow Bells Bakes is run by Joan from a home studio just off Albion Drive. Every cake is made to order for the occasion, from a simple buttercream birthday cake to a fully themed showpiece for a child who has asked for mermaids, football or pandas by name. You tell her the date, the flavours and the idea, and she bakes it. Collection is from E8 by arrangement.

The baker

Joan, and a home kitchen in Hackney

Bow Bells Bakes started at home and has stayed that way on purpose. Working with her husband alongside her, Joan bakes each order herself rather than turning out the same few designs on repeat. That is why the Google reviews read the way they do: real people, real occasions, and cakes that looked and tasted like the ones they were promised.

If you have an idea, a photo, a theme or just a date and a number of guests, that is enough to start. Dietary needs and allergies can be talked through before you order.

Questions before you order

How do I place an order?
Message or call the studio with your date, the occasion, rough guest numbers and any theme or flavour ideas. Joan will confirm what is possible and what it will cost before anything is booked in.
How much notice do you need?
Celebration and themed cakes are made to order, so the earlier you get in touch the better. For a specific date, please ask as soon as you can so it can be held for you.
What does a cake cost?
Every cake is priced on the design, size and detail involved, so it is quoted on enquiry. Tell Joan what you have in mind and she will give you a price before you commit.
Do you deliver, or is it collection?
Bow Bells Bakes is a home studio, and cakes are collected from Albion Drive in E8 by arrangement. Please confirm collection times when you order.
Can you cater to allergies and dietary needs?
Talk to Joan about any allergies or dietary requirements when you enquire, so they can be built into the order from the start.
